January 2025 TBR
I am determined to head off the year strong with a set TBR of books I want to read, but I am also aware that I’m really bad at doing what I’m told, even and almost especially if it’s by myself. All of this to say, I am well aware that I will probably not read most of these books, but I’m hoping to read at least a couple.
This month, I want to get a head start on my TBR for 2025, as well as start annotating some (definitely not all) of the books that I read, most specifically books I don’t anticipate enjoying very much but still want to read for one reason or another.
Erak’s Ransom by John Flanagan
This is the next book in the Ranger’s Apprentice series, and I can not speak highly enough about the series so far. I think this is also the last book I read before stopping the series in middle school, so I’m eagerly waiting to get past this book and read the rest of the series.
A Dawn of Onyx by Kate Golden
I bought this book about six months ago, and I haven’t read it yet because it’s part of a fantasy series, which means I will have to read more pretty soon after, but I am looking forward to reading this book and have been since I bought it.
If We Ever Meet Again by Ana Huang
From my understanding, this book is part of a romance series - like, proper series, not standalone series - and I don’t think I’ve ever read a series that was written specifically to be romance, so I’m pretty scared to actually read it since I feel like most romances can be contained in one book, but I also love Ana Huang, so I’m hoping she does well with it!
Beach Read by Emily Henry
I’ve only read one Emily Henry book in my life, Happy Place, and I can’t lie and say I didn’t love it. I was honestly expecting to feel pretty mid about it based off what others had been saying online when I read it, but it had me actually crying while I was reading it, so I’m excited to read another book by her and hopefully have just as good a time.
Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
I honestly can’t say that I like SJM’s books; I read all of them when I was in high school, and I loved them at the time, but I think I’m way more critical about what I read than I was then, and I want to reread her books since I already own most of them and try to pinpoint what I don’t like about them.
I mentioned annotating books I don’t anticipate liking, and this was the specific book that I had in mind while bringing that up. I think when I first read this book, I didn’t like it even then because it felt like a prologue, but I want to be able to verbalize more specifically why I didn’t like it.
The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Poston
I started reading this book a couple months ago, and then I got annoyed about figuring out who the male main character was on his first page because I’d been anticipating the point being that the FMC was trying to figure out who he was. Obviously, that wasn’t the case, so I definitely want to try and pick it back up with that expectation this coming month, especially since all of the reviewers I know have given this book a pretty high rating.

Of course, these aren’t the only books I plan on reading this month - if I only read seven books a month, I’ll never reach my reading goal for the year - but I certainly plan on at least reading these and maybe continuing some of the series that I end up reading.
I’ll give you guys an update on my reading each week this month and let you know how much progress I end up making on this book and my various other reading goals, but in the meantime, y’all have a great day!
